Let me begin this newsletter with a huge thank you to the residents of Union Grove for your
support of our referendum and our Fire Department! We are honored and proud to serve our
community and thrilled to move forward with plans for a new fire station!
The new station will allow us to better stage and service our vehicles, provide more training and
office spaces, provide gender equity, become ADA, energy and code compliant, and make sure
we meet the needs of all our residents in Union Grove and Yorkville, now and into the future.
Thank you to everyone who came to our open-house events and contacted me with your
questions. I’m glad to answer any questions you may still have.
Here are just a few reminders to keep you safe this winter:
- If you haven’t already, make sure you’ve replaced the batteries in each of your smoke
alarms as well as your CO alarms. - The first snow fall always catches people off guard. Be sure to increase your following
distances while driving and slow down. - Be sure to dress accordingly to avoid cold weather injuries.
- If you have a fire hydrant by your house, please clear the snow away from it; a buried
hydrant can delay us from getting water. - Home fires are more prevalent in the winter and are the leading cause of all residential
fires. Do not use your gas stove to warm your kitchen or your home. Toxic air may be
released. - Make sure you use UL rated extension cords for your holiday lighting. Don’t double up
extension cords and make sure to use the proper cord for outdoor use.
